holy crap! Check out that lead!

the lead has astounded me! from the start. It has everything, delays, chorus and what not! I is just mind blowing my socks off!

It kind of reminds me of times wher they want to bring DnB and trance together (which didn't really work out that well back then, and progressive trance is the results of that).

But I think, if you would be a part of this... I think most people would be shocked! Drasticly!

Thumbs up! Nothing more to add!

nubbinownz responds:

Thank you very much hyd! :D That means alot dude.

Monotomic but I like your 'thougt' ;)

yah, it is sick to have loop and repeat the same sequence over and over again.
The only thing I do see a difference with the 'original' and yours, is that you actually loop the same thing over and over again. While, the original does have a couple of transitions going on in the song itself.

Even though it are still the same notes, I would recommend to focus on using filters, using other instruments, breaking down the drum track (even if it just once or twice).

Dream trance isn't about looping, it is about twisting 'the knobs' at the right time. Just thinking is marely 'looping' constantly does not cut it in my honest opinion...

Hence the lack of score. You be lazy, I will be lazy too ;)

GronmonSE responds:

I stopped caring about what I was working on after the first thirty seconds since the rest of his track is basically the same thing with drum breaks, extra instruments WITH the same melody (effortless, pfft), and a couple of simple filters he used, as you mentioned. Why would I bother doing that? Whilst it does take a few minutes to do, I don't need to enforce that point.

I'm not exactly sure what dream trance is made of, but I know quite a few trance artists who /really/ know their shit, unlike Mr. Mitch. http://genee.newground s.com/ That's underrated quality trance right there :)

Also, care to check my serious work? Check the song before this one if you have time ;P

that saw wave kicks butt!

nothing else to add ;)

Love the phased out sounds

I really like the touch of the phased out sounds. But personally, it becomes a bit 'chaotic' when you phase out the drums as well. I would leave those 'intact' and play a solid drum.

I really dig the piano tune! it sounds awesome! (and yes, it has been raining over here all day too ;))

thats something you dont see everyday

I will rate this 9... why? well, here's just some additional info. I have heard hardstyle songs in the past. And what most people do is only 'care' about the low end. What I really like in your production right now is that you focus on the low end of the sound spectrum, but also take care that this doesn't clogs up the high end (eg: melodies).

Very well performed, good transactions going on and it really sounds pretty diverse aswell (which most hardstyle songs also miss from time to time since they are mostly monotomic)

Good job! I can tell you love making music! Keep it up!

Bahdshah responds:

Dude, YOU ROCK ^^ Thanks for making my day XD!

overclipping to the max

serious, I think you should go easy on the 0dB Level... It isnt there for nothing. your bassdrums sound totally distorted, and it clogges up the rest of the sound.

Getting rid of the 0dB issues might solve something, but might sound like its lesser bassier.

Thats why I rated this below avarage...

Love the pitching effects

Love the pitching effects in the 'bass' tones. The lead sounds really nice to start off with. One thing I find a bit disappointing is that it just sounds like the drums are being undersnowed by the main theme and the bass tone.

I don't know what it would sound like if you would gently increase the drums and reduce the output of the leads. It will probably turn into a whole different mix...

But in my opinion, DnB is simply about the drums and Basses... and not about the leads if you would ask me.

flyingmidget responds:

I agree. Unfortunetly, this is my 2nd song with Fl studio, and Im still having compression issues... ok Im nub xD
I was thinking in making the hats louder for sure, u cant even hear em...
thnx 4 the review :)

I like the idea of this theme

What I like about this kind of theme is that you, in a way, understand how to write a piece like this. You go 'heavy' on the transitions from instrument to instrument and then make it more into a gentle music piece.

I like the good usage of the piano and the string session. Well done with spacing things out a bit. It's very common in a way (to avoid that the sound gets tied up with news reporter voices).

Nice going!

Good attempt!

I will not rate this one 10 yet. It really got closed to it in my opinion. Not just because its just another song, it has been written by multiple people at the same time (collab, I have read the thread ;) good job on getting it on the frontpage too)

I know personally by experience how hard it is to do a collab. Some make touches to the song, or sound, that another tends to mess up later on the process etc. It just goes back and forth, and before you know it your hand go up in the hair.. thinking like 'omfg!'...

One thing I find really powerfull with this collab: it just doesn't sound like a collab what so ever (even though, this may sound sour.. it is a compliment from my behave). It just feels like everything feels in place.. in the right order at the right time.

There is just one big "but!" in this whole review part that I just want to mention: it is too much stereo wise. I mean, from my experience low tones just go in the middle. Just to spank the speakers left and right. What I have noticed from this production, there is too much 'room' and 'space' inside this song... Which also leads it into becoming 'chaotic' in a way. From my experience, dance music MUST have the low tones in the middle, and not phased out and making them stereo (and just for this point I have added a -1), I am going to be gentle on this ;)

Even though, I brought up a negative pointer, doesn't mean it sounds bad. Really, its pretty good in a way. I love the way everything falls into place! Keep it up! and I would love to see more collabs like this.

Good job!

ChainedExpression responds:

Hey man thanks for the review.

Yeah we sort of took it in turns, just passed around the files and added to it. Not too much got changed along the way, and we were communicating all the time. It's definitely been the easiest collab I've done, haha!

I wasn't involved in the final construction of the track, there were a couple of things I'd have changed, but I wasn't at home when the other guys finished. But thanks for the compliment.

As far as I remember, I don't think we actually panned any of our sounds at all, so I don't really what you mean by the low end being all over the place.

Overall, thanks, glad you liked it! We've got more coming, so stay put! ;)

love the break down thingies

Might I have to say... I kind of got stuck with FL cause I gotton lost in FL very fast. But by just listening what you have made here sounds promising. Even though, FL works different, I couldn't really tell much difference. Even if you said it was made in Reason, I would believed it (my compliments)

It sounds different. I love the way you break down the loops with pitch bend effects... Perfect! Even for someone that just started to explore FL!

nubbinownz responds:

I'm a reason kid at heart man, don't get me wrong. As far as I can tell, the only thing that makes FL worse is the presets. It's built in stuff is absolutely horrid ( aside from the 3xosc) but this song was made entirely out of VST's and external drum samples. The filters in FL are pretty wicked, though I do miss my good ole scream 4. The new slicer is basically a DR. Rex on steroids. It's pretty wicked. I like the fact that You can just drag audio clips in there. As a reason you user, I promse you that will HATE the way that note painting works. It's pretty damned frustrating and alot of unncessary steps in comparison to reason.
But all in all it was not a bad experience. Took me a bit to figure out how to get my drums sounding right. But to be honest Hyd. You could dominate FL and get ALOT of out it. and if you really wanted to, you could rewire reason into FL
(though i'll warn you, FL's rewire engine is absolute BALLS, It does NOT play well with others)
The way effects work is totally different than reason too. Instead of routing them, you get a huge like ..128 channel mixer to play with. and you choose which mixer channel to send different instruments to.

all in all I dug it. Fun experience. :D

i just love creating music while I am not coding my ass off...
